Morning Camp Program Options 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

August 6-10

Geo-STEM cars (Ages 5-9) $150  ***REGISTRATION IS CLOSED***

We will explore the different automotive designs from around the world. We will design and build several different wind powered vehicles. Using mathematics students will determine their award winning design and race their best cars!

Sports Around the World (Ages 5-11) $150 ***REGISTRATION IS CLOSED***

Campers will learn the history about where different sports originate, then it’s time to get active! Campers will learn conditioning skills, play sports, practice sportsmanship, and how to be team players. Camp ends with a friendly Olympic style competition!

August 13-17

My Neighborhood My Community (Ages 5-11) $150 ***ONLY 1 SPOT LEFT***

Old Norwood Park is a unique neighborhood worth discovering! This is a walking field trip camp where we visit area landmarks such as the Noble Seymour Crippen House and meet with some of our local businesses to learn what makes this community work. If we need to stay inside because of the weather, we’ll bring the community to us. Our final project is a community based project where we instill the importance of what it means to be good citizens!

Geo-STEM Rockets (Ages 9-11) $150 ***REGISTRATION IS CLOSED***

Aerospace engineering is a fast growing field. In this exciting STEM program campers will explore the forces that make rockets work as well as the history behind our “race to space”. Students will design their own rockets. This will be an out of this world experience.

August 20-24

Cardboard City (Ages 5-11) $150 ***REGISTRATION IS CLOSED***

We are redefining the MakerSpace concept and putting a geographic twist on it! This camp is all about creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking and global perspectives. Come dressed to get messy, and be prepared for a fun time. Anything goes in this program!

America the Beautiful (Ages 5-9) $150 ***ONLY 4 SPOTS LEFT***

Explore our own great country, the USA! Campers will have a blast putting together the 50 states on our GIANT floor map every day and creating a masterpiece of their “road trip”. This is one lesson on the U.S.A. you don’t want your kids to miss!

Drama Around the World (Ages 9-12) $150

From Musical Theater to different theater styles, students will immerse themselves in theater from around the World. Some days may be songs from musicals that take place in other countries, while others days may take them on a journey of movement and different styles of theater. The class will end with a final recital of everything learned during the week.

Wander Our World (Ages 4-11) $150 per week

Travel the world this summer! Campers will have a blast while becoming culturally aware of other countries in the world. Our well-rounded program includes the hands-on experience of our Travel Trunk of artifacts that are mostly sourced from the country of origin, stories, games, videos, and craft projects. This calendar is subject to change! We are in the process of partnering with other organizations with global vision to bring special visitors to camp such as dancers and musicians.

Jr. Counselor Program

This program is for highly motivated students entering 7th-8th grades. We are looking for responsible, caring, reliable, energetic, and enthusiastic Jr. Counselors who have demonstrated leadership or have experience working with children.
Jr. Counselors gain valuable training and experience working directly with camp instructors are evaluated by the Camp Director at the end of the session.

The most important job of a Jr. Counselor is to help other campers.

Other responsibilities may include:
• Creating fun games during free time.
• Organizing maker spaces, creative corner, and quiet space.
• Wiping down tables and chairs.
• Directing campers in hallways.
• Leading brain breaks.
• Setting up classrooms for instructors and gathering supplies as needed.

There is a limited number of spaces and an application is required. Jr. Counselors must be available for at least two weeks during the month of August. Jr. Counselors receive one t-shirt. Extra shirts may be purchased for a fee. This position is a volunteer position. The fee to enroll is $75/week.

World Traveler
Choose your camp options by selecting one or more weeks, morning or afternoons. If you choose a morning camp and and afternoon camp in the same week ($300), get the benefit of a full day (8:00-5:00) for no additional cost!
Register for one half day program and receive a camp t-shirt.
Register for more than one half day program and receive a t-shirt plus a drawstring backpack. 
Cost per half day camp: $150

Jet Setter – NEW!
Campers receive a 10-DAY punch card. Can only be used for Wander Our World afternoon options from 1:00-4:00 PM. Can choose any 10 days from Aug 6-31 to participate in the afternoon Wander Our World program. Campers receive a camp t-shirt and drawstring backpack. (Sold individually. Each sibling will need to purchase their own card).
Cost for one 10 DAY punch card: $275

Frequent Flyer – NEW FULL DAY OPTION, PROMOTIONAL OFFER!
This is an invitation to join us for all-day camp for all 4 weeks! Choose your morning camp, then join the afternoon fun, and finally, stick around for extended day! Our Frequent Flyers will receive a camp t-shirt and drawstring backpack. Drop off is at 8:00 AM and pick up is at 5:00 PM. Campers bring their own lunch, and we supply the snacks. All food allergies will be taken into consideration.
Cost for Frequent Flyer Access: $600 (Limited Number Sold, Non-Refundable, Campers must be 5 years old by August 6)

Jr. Counselor Program

Meet the Staff!

Miss Irene

In 2005, Irene founded Footprints of the Mind, LLC, a multi-award winning company that provides geography enrichment to elementary aged children through innovative school programming, interactive workshops, and products such as its Wander our World app. She has appeared on WGN TV Midday news: Focus on Family discussing the importance of geography education, and has sent five U.S.A. National Winners to the Barbara Bard Petchenik Children’s World Mapping Competition. Irene holds a B.A. in Urban and Regional Planning with a focus on International Development, has studied at the University of Barcelona, and has a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. She is a member of the National Council of Geographic Education and also volunteers at the School Services Department for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

Miss Kaprice

Miss Kaprice has been a dedicated member of the Footprints of the Mind team for the last 5 years. During this time, she has been a key player in developing the programs offered to our students. She is dedicated to providing a fun, nurturing, and educational environment for all. One of Kaprice’s main attributes is her innate ability to treat all children like her own. She is a caring mom of 3 boys. Kaprice holds a degree in Bachelors of Arts in Business Management and has been featured on National Geographic’s blog.

Ms. Norton

Ms. Norton is a primary grade teacher in Chicago Public Schools. She received her Master of Arts in Elementary Education in 2012. She is from Michigan originally and enjoys traveling back, especially during the summer months! She is very excited to combine two of her passions (education and travel) to provide learning experiences that allow for creativity and innovation in both a local and global context. She is also excited to work with some of her former and future students!

Miss Diane

Miss Diane holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Slippery Rock University in PA. She has majors in French and social studies, so this geography program is right up her line. She has taught in Pa, Ohio, Illinois, Florida, and Texas. Her interests are traveling, singing, reading, various volunteer activities in school , church, and nursing homes. She is the proud mother of 3 wonderful children and grandmother of 6 incredible grandchildren. She loves working with children and watching them become excited about learning.

Miss Caroline

Miss Caroline has an M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership and is National Board Certified teacher. She has been teaching in Illinois for 16 years. Caroline is certified to teach math, science, language arts and social studies as well as English as a second language. Her experience is primarily in middle school mathematics and science. She has taught STEM to grades K-8. Caroline believes in an investigative approach to learning, which is evident in the STEM activities she has planned for this summer’s programs.

Miss Athena

Miss Athena is a Physical Education and Health teacher and has taught every grade level all the way through high school. She has a Bachelors in Kinesiology, a Masters degree in Educational Administration, and is certified in Special Education, School Administration, Health, PE, and Drivers Education. She enjoys playing basketball, soccer, traveling, and skiing. Miss Athena is a Golden Gloves Champion, has a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and looks forward to bringing fun and excitement to physical activity for our campers!

Miss Jill

Miss Jill is a special education paraprofessional in District #212. She has worked with all age groups but having worked in early childhood since 2002, the younger ones are her favorite! She earned her B.A. from Elmhurst College and is planning on teaching special education for CPS full time starting this Fall.

Ms Erin

Erin Mulkewich is the Director of The WIP Training Center as well as a Director/Production Manager/Production Stage Manager/Theater Education Instructor. Prior experience includes Long Lake Camp for the Arts in Long Lake, New York as Production Manager of their Performing Arts department where Erin worked and developed various productions and taught several workshops to campers. Erin also started a Theater School in Granbury, Texas. Erin has worked for a variety of different companies in the Chicagoland area and the Midwest both with children and adults. Theatre has always been a part of Erin’s life. “It’s exciting watching something grow into something so wonderful. There’s a certain magic to it.”

What is the age range for programs?

Most programs are for children ages 5-11.
Wander Our World afternoon camp starts at age 4. Must start Kindergarten in the fall.
Drama Around the World goes up to age 12.

Programs take place in a church. Is this religious based?

No. Our programs are not affiliated with the Norwood Park Lutheran Church. We chose this location because of the size of the indoor space, the outdoor opportunities in Norwood Park, and because child safety is paramount for both our company and the church community.  

How much does it cost?

World Explorer: Half-day programs are $150 each
Jet Setter 10 DAY punch card: $275
Frequent Flyer: Full-Day $600 (non-refundable, limited amount sold.) ***SOLD OUT***

What is the refund and cancellation policy?

–Frequent Flyer all day access: No refund, no proration due to vacation or other absence. All sales final.
–For all other program options: A 15% service fee will be applied to all refunds. Cancellations must be requested before 2 weeks of start date. No refunds will be granted within 2 weeks of start date. 

The program I wanted is sold out. What happens next?

Children interested in being put onto the wait list must fill out the online registration form (no payment will be collected) and will be notified of their location on the list and as spots open.

Is food provided by Footprints of the Mind?

Children are welcome to bring their own NUT FREE snack.
Frequent Flyers are required to bring their own lunch, and can bring as many snacks as they would like.

What is the child/counselor ratio?

8:1

Are counselors trained in CPR?

Yes, counselors are trained in CPR, food allergy management and how to use Epipens, and diabetic management.
