Wander Our World After-School Program for K-4th Grades

An award-winning company, Footprints of the Mind provides innovative programs in geography and cultural awareness for the next generation of global citizens. We raise the bar for enrichment programs and raise expectations in geographical knowledge. Investing in our children is investing in the future of our world.

The Wander Our World program includes “traveling” to a different country each week.

Interactive classroom teaching methods are reinforced by our Travel Trunk (hands-on mobile museum of artifacts), country related craft project, postcards, passport journals, maps, and more. Using visual, audio and tactile exercises to stimulate the senses, our goals are to enhance children’s abilities to retain what they learn and to develop a global outlook with a lifelong love for travel and cultural awareness.

Class Dates:
October 17, 24 (No class Oct. 31)
November 7, 14, 21 (No class Nov. 28)
December 5, 12, 19

Room Number: To be determined

Focus: Our classroom based programming provides an opportunity to address the needs of our changing world by focusing on cultural awareness and global competency.

Enrichment: Students will cultivate civic responsibility, historical thinking, and geographic mindedness while becoming culturally aware of other countries in the world. Students will also learn how other countries adopted the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals to transform our world and work towards meeting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Additionally, what makes the program unique is the hands-on experience of our Travel Trunk of artifacts which are mostly sourced from the country of origin.

Value: Children exposed to a series of different cultures are able to make connections between people, places and things – the basic definition of geography. Our youngest students are capable of content and cognitive skills related to geography. They will benefit from this early instruction so they can build a foundation for more deep learning experiences to be able to make practical applications to real world issues in the future. This foundation of world knowledge can be repeated in all content areas of their education. Our comprehensive program also teaches children from a young age about respect and acceptance of all cultures and to embrace their differences and similarities.

Students receive:
• Individual cardboard travel suitcase to store their travel items
• Passport Journal
• Stamps and flag stickers for their journals
• Craft projects that relate to the country
