Four CPS Students Named National Winners in Map Competition

Four Chicago Public School students who created illustrated maps through Footprints of the Mind, a Chicago-based company dedicated to teaching children geography, are among the six International finalists chosen for their submissions to ICA World Children’s Map competition.

“This is our third year participating in this competition and we are so proud to have four students representing the United States,” says Irene Antonoglu, founder of Footprints of the Mind, who started the company to advance global and cultural competency in children ages preK-8th grades.

The competition is an event created by the International Cartographic Association (ICA) with the aim of promoting the creative representation of the world in graphic form by children. Of all the nationwide maps submitted by children ages 5-16, 18 Footprints of the Mind students made the first cut, ten made it to the national finals and last week four students were chosen as international finalists. All four are Chicago Public School students who attend Beaubien and Ebinger Elementary Schools on the city’s northwest side.
